Humans for Sale

"Humans for Sale" explores the sad hopes, loyalties, and betrayals that constitute human trafficking. The focus is Southeast Asia, arguably the world's center for sex trafficking. The photographers include Southeast Asia based photojournalists Michael Flamm, Masaru Goto, and Nicolas Lainez, and US based photographers Neal Newfield and Wen-Fei Hsu. Writers for the exhibition include Jim Keim, Susan Newfield, and Andrew Barnes. Students from the West Virginia University's, Vietnam Initiative Club will also exhibit photographs made during their recent trip to Southeast Asia.

Humans for sale does not shy away from the beauty of Southeast Asia nor the ugliness of trafficking, and not infrequently the images are a blend of these contrasting energies. The viewer is hit with the visual equivalence of a sucker punch with beautiful images that first entice and then slap common sensibilities.

This exhibition has been shown in Washington, D.C. and in the San Francisco Area. Sponsors for the exhibition are the Southeast Asia Children’s Project & the Pacific Links Foundation. Photographs will be for sale. All artists’ profits will be donated to the Pacific Links Foundation and Project ADAPT, two organizations that fights human trafficking in Southeast Asia.
